This week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge, hosted by Amy, is all about mountains.
In the mountains, I’ve felt at peace, exhilarated, grateful, exhausted, scared, lost. I walked endless trails that took me way out of my comfort zone. I found myself up on the mountain, in the wild, as it was getting dark, wondering how will I make it back down. I found myself in danger (just because I’ve put myself in danger) and felt my life hanging on a thread. I found myself so incredibly at peace with everything out there, me included. I felt that I belong.
Spending time in the mountains is a way of getting to know parts of you that are hardly visible under normal circumstances. You may be surprised by what you learn and it may not be all that pleasant or flattering but it helps.
I’ve selected a few photos from Belgium, Austria, and Romania. It is fully in the spirit of Belgian humor that the few hundred meters elevations are called mountains (with the highest peaking at 700m or so). But I love them as they are. This river valley just below can be just as challenging as a trail in the Alps, despite the differences in altitude. They all have something to say and to teach if we could just silence ourselves long enough to listen.

Beautiful photos. I live in the Canadian Rockies and love observing the changing beauty of the mountains. They look so different in different seasons, weather, and times of the day 🙂

Beautiful photos. One argument my boss used when he was trying to hire me is that in California we have real mountains whereas back east they are just hills. No matter how tall, mountains are a joy to visit.

Love your choices, Florin. Low mountains we have in Skane, where I live, too. But still, they are mountains…Romania looks gorgeous, and the last one is my favourite.
I’m happy you like it. Took that one on a trip in which I chose a hike that was closed during winter. Found myself stuck on frozen snow on a steep slope going right into the abyss. Talking about over-confidence.
